What is the best coal brickets to use in a smoker that lights andburns better. The recent ones I got forgot the name seems to not do as good as Royal 100% coal brickets.

I use Royal Oak lump (USA) for a bed of coals. I light the lump with about 2/3 chimney of Royal Oak briqs. I don't know what type of cooking you do, but when my lump is at a good coal bed, I add my splits and flavor wood. I hope this helps.

Good luck and good smokin', Joe

I smoke and grill with coal. I used the electric starter and add apple wood for flavor. Thanks for the help. Royal does seem to work the best.

I can tell this one I got from teh commasary Cwboy Coal sucks.

Do you guys find that lump doesn't last for a 15+ hour smoke? I love lump for grilling, but have only used it once in my WSM.. hence my switch to Kingsford Comp.

Lump doesn't last as long as briqs. For my short cooks I use lump and briqs for long cooks.

Lump also burns hotter.

Kingsford Comp please enlighten me. I know I usually do no smoke over 10 hours but willing to learn more

Ijust notice the label under my name LOL how does it change up the ranks?
