Make sure all the parts and the owners manual are inside the box. Follow the directions in the manual for seasoning the smoker. From what I've read it's a great smoker. It seems like MB got everything right. The legs were included which makes it an even better deal.

At some point think about using good quality wood pellets instead of wood chips. You can get tips on what to use to burn wood pellets on SMF. And if you don't already own them, buy a couple of really accurate thermometers like a Thermapen and a Maverick ET-733 (or similar types that cost less).

Happy smoking!

Congrats. What's the model number? Let us know what you think of it once you've set it up.

Make sure you get all the thin plastic that is used for packing that is on the metal tray. I didnt see it all when I seasoned mine... it melted into a wrinkled mess.
also keep the model and serial number written down. You will need those if you need call to get the digital temp controller on the unit.
mine went out after 1 year. Masterbuilt is sending it with out any cost to me (good customer service). The only down side is it is on backorder so it must be a known problem for them.
. Over all a good unit for the cost. I have smoked many of hams, sausage, baked beans, ribs, even burger for chili and also vodka for bloddy marys, you will enjoy it and make many of good meals with it.

This is their newest model. Hasn't yet been out a year so your controller isn't one that's been having issues. Your smoker is just like mine and I've smoked with it every weekend for 3 months or so. You're gonna love it. The chip tray does work great but I got an AMPS so I could set it and forget it. I found mine was cooking at about 30 degrees hotter than it says it is. So I'd use a known calibrated therm to test your smoker temps so you'll know what it's actual temp is.

Vodka for smoking? ;)

Thanks everyone for the tips. I haven't actually opened it yet as the wife has been out of town and I've been kept busy with an adventurous 2 year old daughter running around. Hoping to get an A-Maze-N Pellet smoker soon to go with this. I'm going to try to get this seasoned tonight so I can put it to use this weekend!

Yeah, ive smoked vodka. I put a bowl of vodka in and smoked it for a little while ,maybe 1/2 hr or so on the lowest temp that would give me smoke. I used it to make bloody marys . It was a interesting taste like a fire roasted tomato . I t alsmost had a bbq sauce flavor with the juice. Try it it was good. Sorry Mods I didnt mean to hijack the thread.

I have one also. It's a nice smoker you'll like it.
It makes great ribs. My cousin showed me how to make them and they turn out great
We use baby back with baby rays sauce. Turn smoker all the way up 275. I put sauce on right away and apply 1-2 times during smoke. Takes around 5hrs

SAMs had some alum pans for sale that just fit inside the smoker which I use as a drip pan easy clean up.

Just a Note to all:

Be careful you don't use a tray in your MES that is too close to the overall size of your smoker. If you don't have enough space around the pan, like 1 1/2" or 2" on all sides, you could have heat flow problems.

Carry on,

Don't get overly excited about the Bluetooth.  Mine has it and when I cooked a pork tenderloin last night, getting it to connect was hit and miss because of distance.  I don't think I was even 20' away.  I've been looking for a Bluetooth range extender but no luck so far.  There are 3 classes of Bluetooth.  They should have used a class 1 which would go 100'.

Have no issue with Bluetooth. Works great
For the price it is a nice smoker and will do a great job.

What distance can you get with your Bluetooth Redsmoke?

I measured and I'm probably getting about 30'.  For where I have to put my smoker, it's just not enough.  I would need 60' to be usable.  100' would be awesome.

I also only get about 30 feet but I use it most when I'm doing overnight smokes. My bedroom is upstairs just above my smoker outside so it serves its purpose for me. Plus I have a maverick 733 and it'll reach 300 feet.

My Bluetooth won't connect unless I'm right by my patio door (smoker sits on said patio). It doesn't go very far after that. Luckily I have a ET-733 that tells me all I need to know.

How far will the BT work if you're outside with nothing between you and the smoker?

Thanks,

Bear
