That is a 1st gen if you can believe the picture.

I just ordered this and had a question. Do you think this one will come with a meat probe?

I thought the gen 1s wasnt much count (i am very likely to be wrong in this) but it seem like a nice price...
Jcollins,Yes ts 140.00 is a very good price. It is near the Christmas low. As far  as being no cont  everyone has there  own opinions. The gen 1 has less inherent problem than the Gen 2.The 30 is small by some peoples standards but if you are smoking for only a couple of people it is adequate but if you smoke for a tribe go to a 40 It will cost you double but it is bigger. The 20070910 is a good smoker to learn on and it's not to pricey. Once again it's just my OPINION.   Jted

The earlier Gen #1, with the square cornered control box would probably not have the meat probe, which I don't personally trust anyway, but a bigger thing would be it probably doesn't have the remote control either.

I bought this smoker to learn on. I'd never owned one before and it was at a price point under my spending limit. I felt if I stunk at it at least I wouldn't be out a big cash investment. After 3 years I can tell you this little smoker blows me away. I use the A-MAZE-N Pellet Smoker and wood pellets and the quality of the barbecue that comes out of the smoker rivals or surpasses bbq restaurant chains once you learn what you're doing--which is very easy. Being an electric smoker, it's a different animal from the WSM, and you won't get smoke rings with it like you will with the WSM if you're using wood chunks along with charcoal. It's a great entry level electric smoker.
