Wondering if anyone has any inside info on this?

I called Rectec a few weeks ago and they indicated #1 their controller will accept a wifi module as plug and play and #2 they are working on the product as a add on accessory.

Can anyone confirm or deny this direction? They stated it could come out late this year but of course its hard to bank on that. I do not have a Rectec currently, but want one. The lack of wifi is giving me pause though, I really like the app GMG has.

I hadn't heard that, but to be honest, it's not a feature that'd be high on my wish list.  I've owned a Rec Tec for 2 years...really like it a lot.  It's already the easiest-to-use smoker I've ever cooked on.  The Wifi feature would be one of those bells and whistles that'd probably be wasted on me.

Yeah, seems like to some its important, others may never use it. It'd be nice if they offer it as a add-on. Then people can make a choice. Personally I would definitely use it. I'm looking forward to being able to leave the house with a pellet smoker going, this feature would give me extra peace of mind the temps are as they should be.

Hopefully your smoker is not next to your house. Sorry to get on my soapbox, but just because a pellet smoker or any other kind is set and forget it, you are still dealing with fire (or in the case of an electric a heat source) and a box with grease hidden in every crook and corner. to leave any kind of outdoor cooking appliance Un monitored for any length of time is asking for trouble.

Agreed. If I'm smoking or grilling, I don't do anything that takes me away from the house...and conversely I don't plan to run the smoker if I have activities planned away from home. I don't care how "set and forget" it is...when I have a fire going in my pit, I'm gonna be close enough to take care of it when something goes awry. This is one big reason I don't care anything about owning a wi-fi controlled rig.
