I can't get huli huli in my district of Kona, unless I make it myself!!! My wife and youngest daughter will be in Hilo all day playing club soccer and my second daughter will be at her high school playing waterpolo...
I figure they're all gone for the day and I can fire up my mini!
Nope!!! My second daughter forget her wallet and I need to drive 40 miles north to get her it because she has her prom after her sports events and she won't be home all weekend!
So I get to her game at halftime and they are losing 5-1!
This team is currently undefeated! We are losing 5-1 at the half...
I also notice that they are running a concession with smoked meat as an option:
I'm actually trying to find where the huli huli pit is but I can't not support the high school team if they are offering smoked meat!!!
I get a smoked meat bowl!!! I actually ate about five pieces before I took the photo...
Have I ever mentioned that I LOVE Hawaiian style smoked meat?
My daughters team storms back and wins 11-7 to stay undefeated!!! I give her her wallet and continue my goal of finding out where the huli huli pit is....
On my way to the wet side of town I stop at one of our local stores to see if they have the same tamale pots that are available where I live..,
Sure enough 32 qt pots! They were also 40 and 52 qt pots...
So I've got a couple of hours to kill before I have to head into work and decide to cross the street to see if there are tamale pots there!
Yup! 40 qt pots!!!
I then head out looking for where the huli huli pit is....
They were across the street and a block east of where they had been! Not hard to find at all!!!
The usual condiments: shoyu, sweet chili sauce, chili pepper water, sweet baby's Ray and sriracha!
Kiawe smoked chicken and ribs!!!
