Imitation Lobster  (Snow Storm Dinner)

Today is the first day of Spring, and it’s been snowing like crazy all day, so I gotta make something inside.

Imitation Lobster got the nod, so I pulled 7 Whiting fillets out of freezer to thaw.

After thawing, I cut the fillets in half.

Then I put 6 cups of water in a pot, along with one cup of Sugar, and 2 TBS of Non-Iodized Salt, and brought it to boil.

Once the water was boiling, I removed from heat, add fillets, and keep them in the water for 5 minutes.

Remove from water, and drain on paper towels.

Scrape off any skin that comes off easily. (This fish's skin was like oil)

Line pieces up in a foil pan or cookie tray, or similar pan.

Pour a good amount of melted Butter over All pieces.

Sprinkle Paprika over All.

Put in Preheated oven, set on Broil. (I like to use the Toaster Oven).

Broil for 10 minutes for each 1” of thickness, with a minimum of 8 minutes for thinner pieces.

Remove from Broiler, put in bowl or plate, and pour Butter from pan over fish, and serve.

Pretty good tasting stuff!!!

Mrs Bear doesn’t eat fish, so this was all for me, along with a couple slices of buttered toast.

Looks great! My wife and I caught s bunch of whiting down in GA a couple years back and did a very similar dish. Only difference was we also caught a half dozen blue crabs so we steamed them, picked them and added the meat to the fish and butter sauce.

Looks tasty.   When i was fishing in Alaska we made surimi which is most of the artificial crab on the market.
Thank You Keith !!

I always wanted to go fishing in Alaska, but never got there!

Maybe in my next life.

Looks good Bear! We do "poor mans" Lobsta like that using a fish called Cabezon (aka Mother-in-law fish). Tasty stuff!
Thanks Case!!

I like this with just about any white fleshed fish. I used this because "Weiss" sells these all the time for $4.99 for a 2 pound bag of boneless fillets.

LOL---Yup, I always have to eat fish by myself if at home.

Weiss has that price for at least 4 weeks now. ($4.99 for a 32 ounce bag)  Bag has a Ziplock top, once you cut the very top off, so you can use some & put the rest back in the freezer.

nice job......one mans cheap bag o'fish another mans LOBSTER!!.....can u smoke those?
Thanks Willie!!

That's my plan----If they still have them at that price when the outside temp is fit for my body, I'll be smoking some of these fillets.
