I did the same thing tonight, but I'm ashamed to say I gas grilled them at 400 degrees. No smoke flavor at all.

  Thanks, but it has nothing to do with cooking or smoking. I have a 1930 Chevy, and a lot of "car people" or "gear-heads" call the old Chevys "Stovebolts, just like they call the '55-6-7 "Shoe-box" Chevys. I guess if I still had my '55 I might have been the Shoe-box.
