Just picked up my first Tri Tip plan to season with dry rub overnight and smoke till It of 120 and sear on grill!

Seasoned and getting ready to go! Last time I used my WSM I had to much charcoal in it and shut it down to save it. I got a lot of build up it's brown and flakes off is it creasote? I scrubbed it out best I could with a bristle brush and wiped it down with paper towel so I think I'm good to go any answers appreciated:).
 
That's just seasoning, and is quite normal. If it's flakey just knock it off. You don't want to take off the stuff that's stuck on good.
 
I guess no matter what it should be better then the Lion's game today!
 
Smoking with mesquite and cherry. Ditched the sugar in the rub and had cookies instead! Also tossed on some redskins and a onion.
 

Sliced! Is it just me or can we only load one pic per post ? It's most likely me only using a iPhone and not knowing much about these fancy forums!
 
Thanks guys it turned out well. I think I need to move on to a brisket soon, need to find enough time for it.
 
Great looking beef! I don't know anything about iphones but I load multiple pictures from my laptop all the time.
