Live in Nashville, I own a Weber 22.5 and a couple Weber kettles, been grilling ana smoking on and off for... Well, several years now but I don't consider myself an expert by any stretch. My other interests in food are basically just good home style food with a twist thrown in occasionally.

I like cooking on cast iron, I like fresh vegetables, and I really like good BBQ in it's many regional and even local incarnations.

I'm not crazy about molasses and will usually replace it with cane syrup which has a little lighter flavor, but I do like spicy, and vinegary, and smoky sweet the best.

I have no aversion to vinegar and I think that's relevant because I run in to quite a few folks that do.

Honestly though, if the cook is good and believes in what their doing, and it's BBQ, it's all pretty good.

Hello.

Oh, I'm also getting another 22.5 WSM for larger cooks and especially sides so I don't have to use the oven.

Hey. I just joined up myself, and I am a fellow Nashville guy (technically we moved out of the city about 25 minutes north, to care for a sick relative), but I've been living here since I was a kid.

I love the city and I'm glad we have some people representing the great state of TN.

Thanks, I actually live in Hermitage but as far people on the web are concerned it's all Nashville. Right now I'm in Memphis attending the May thing they do over here. I should have done this before now is all I can say. Memphis has it's ups and downs but this is pretty cool, it'd be even better though if I was in my twenties... :icon_wink:

I was in East Nashville so I know exactly where your at in Hermitage.

If you haven't been to Gus's then its worth the stop. We ate good BBQ in Memphis the last time at Central, but the fried chicken at Gus's was one of the best things I've eaten in months. Completely legit.

Make sure if you go its the original location.

It's on our to do list on the way out tomorrow, I need to make sure they're open on Sunday though.

It is, the one in Mason is open from 11:00 to 19:00 according to the Google.

We actually don't eat out that much, lived here for years and Martin's is still on the to do list.

LoL

I've been to martins about 6-8 times the last 3 years and it's awesome! On the weekends they use whole hog for the pulled pork and to this day it's the best pulled pork I've ever eaten. You have to try it! I'd eat there all the time if I lived in Nashville! Lol!

I'm not a fan of jacks but another place I really liked was peg leg porker. There was also a place I believe on 2nd ave that was on man v food a few years ago. Can't remember the name of it but it wasn't great. Went out of business about 2 years ago. Wasn't impressed with rippys or whatever the name of that place on broadway is.

Martins is good. I think the best BBQ I've had has come from gas stations outside of Nashville in the country. Amoco gas station on Hwy 257 going into Springfield. Home made sausage, pork skins, BBQ, and wonderful meat n three.

We like Jim and Nick's on Charlotte to be honest, a lot of people say meh, cause it's a chain I think, but we really like it.

We got to judge Peg Leg Porker yesterday for the Kingsford Tour of Champions thing, it's pretty cool if you separate from the group and ask questions and stuff.

Next on the to do list around home is the place off hwy 55 in Morrison. Exit 111 off I24 I think. Been by there but never stopped.

Yep, used to be a bait shop on 31E in Kentucky with, well, a counter and a bait shop with wooden benches. If that smoker was smoking you better stop cause they had some really good pulled pork. It was a bonus to fishing that creek on barren river lake.

Gus's had some pretty good chicken even if the kitchen was a little unorganized, I can see why the wait times get long. We lucked out though and got there at noon, wasn't busy at all. It was worth the short detour for the chicken which was seasoned perfectly.

We wanted to try a restaurant we hadn't been to before so we tried the Bar-B-Q Shop. It just wasn't our thing with that sauce all over everything but there were plenty of people enjoying it. My recommendation would be to get the dry ribs and make sure and tell them to hold the sauce until you're sure you like it. I had 1/2 wet 1/2 dry and had to scrape the sauce off the wet, the pulled pork was sauced too but they have sauce on the table so without wouldn't lose you anything. I don't understand the BBQ spaghetti at all? Sauce with more sauce covered in sauce, and hey, I actually like sauce most times but this was just strange to me. Had a weird flavor like it was cut with tomato soup and whirl or something.

Overall it was a great trip and I'll be going next year hopefully.
