I want to build a drum smoker

Hi people
I'm a newbie to the whole think and I would like to build a smoker out of a drum.
since I dont want to "reinvent the wheel", I would like to ask from the forom member/s that have done it and they are satisfied with the outcome - if they are willing to provide a sketch/plan/pic of it. I know that I can find on the net, but I prefer to have it from someone who built it and knows that its OK.
Let me point out that I have the skills and the tools to carry out the task.
Thanks for your cooperation and help.

Roll Call: New Smoker Build

Hello AVZ. There's a couple of things we need to know. One; we'd like to meet you. Could you cruise over to the Roll Call area and introduce yourself?
Two; Will your drum smoker be horizontal with side fire pit or verticle?
With this info, we will be able to help you with your new addiction.

It's a watertight fittin ya should be able ta get fer a couple bucks at yer local done it ta yerself store in the electrical dept.

AVZ, yup built it myself, there perty easy ta do.

Air intakes er 3/4 inch short nipples screwed inta the holes with a electrical lock nut on the back. Two caps an one full flow 3/4 inch valve.

I used u-bolts ta hold the racks cause there a bit more stable. Picked up the racks in the grill section a farm store but most any should have em. Lid is off a weber grill. Mine wanted ta sit on top so I rolled a aluminum ring ta the size a the drum an riveted that on, lid sits great now.

Made a basket usin a 13 1/2 inch grill grate an expanded wire. Bout 10 inch's high. Holds all the coals an wood I need fer a smoke session.

Purty much a basic build, I thin somebody posted a link fer ya, Most all of em got bout the same info. I like the weber lid cause it lets ya use two racks stead a just one, but if ya only need one, then it's just an added expense.

Welcom heres a pic or two of mine. I went vertical on the design due to a constand wind we have. This was supposed to be my experimental version but it works too well for me to rebuild yet.
